FAQ

Common questions about using Superscriptify.

It converts bracketed citations into superscripts or markers, or removes them entirely, while preserving numbering, grouping, and selected exclusions.
Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), JATS XML (.xml), HTML (.html/.htm), TXT (.txt), Rise 360 XLIFF (.xlf), and Storyline 360 Word translation exports.
Manage Citations replaces bracketed citations with superscript or marker numbers. Remove Citations deletes bracketed citations without adding superscripts or markers.
Groups are created using the publication portion of the citation, determined by your selected character pattern. You can merge or exclude groups on the edit screen.
In Superscript mode you can enable multi-cite brackets and select a separator (for example, a semicolon). Superscriptify splits citations inside the bracket before processing.
The red callout means Superscriptify detected citation-like text outside brackets or citations with missing brackets. The tool will not process missing-bracket citations to avoid accidental changes.
Yellow highlights near-duplicate citation groups. Green highlights likely non-citations, such as entries missing your selected marker pattern or common-word parenthetical text.
Superscriptify only scans the Translation column (4th column) in Storyline export tables. Text outside those tables is ignored for extraction.
Superscriptify scans slide text, tables, grouped shapes, and speaker notes. Citations are extracted and processed using the same rules as Word.
Superscript mode can reorder bibliographies to match superscript or marker numbering. Remove mode offers an optional delete-bibliography toggle for Word PowerPoint, JATS XML, HTML, and TXT files.
Superscriptify cannot read images. In Superscript mode, use the Add Row button on the edit screen to preserve numbering where image-only citations exist.
It is a visual editor for JATS XML that lets you edit content, tags, and references without working directly in XML. Upload JATS XML or Word, review the tag structure, and export a clean JATS file.
